How important is road riding if I want to race my mountain bike cross country?

Category - Mountain Biking

By Robyn Wong

Road cycling is a great way to build strength and endurance and to do intensity without hammering your body like you would on your Mountain Bike. Road training is more consistent and is easily tailored for specific efforts or intervals with less concern about the terrain. It is also possible to go for an easy recovery spin (i.e. keeping a low heart rate) on the road whereas this is pretty difficult on the Mountain Bike.
