Bike Workshops

The following two workshops are held at Penny Farthing Cycles, 89 Courtenay Place, Wellington throughout the year.

A class covers practical basic bike maintenance, both road and mountain, including :

    • changing tyres without tyre levers!
    • oiling, rejoining, cleaning and maintaining chains
    • adjusting gears and brakes, plus
    • tips on a regular cleaning regime to keep your cycle running smoothly, save wear and tear on components, not to mention embarrassment and long walks home!

  • Road Bike Handling & Awareness - theory classes

One of the fastest ways to improve your road cycling is to increase your knowledge, skills and awareness. Attend this two hour theory-based course and you’ll not only gain confidence - you’ll also find that riding becomes easier and safer!

The following three practical workshops are held in centrally located Wellington venues throughout the year.

This three hour course consists both theory and practical cycling and has been designed for commuters and concentrates on suburban, inner city and cycle path riding.

This course is designed to help road cyclists learn the principles of braking, cornering and general bike handling. In addition skills for riding in a bunch are practiced. The knowledge gained will assist in both safety and confidence and add to overall riding enjoyment.

This course is split into two groups to specifically cater for the introductory and intermediate level rider.

Whether you are an entry level mountain biker or you race competively these courses are designed to build your skill set, boost your confidence and multipy your enjoyment! Choose which course best suits your abilitiy - Introductory, Intermediate or Advanced.

We also offer women specific and children specific introductory level mountain bike courses.
