PFC Wellington Mountain Bike Skills Courses

Introductory Course (Wellington)

The aim of this course is to introduce you to the basic techniques and essential skills required in off-road mountain biking to make you a more confident and safe rider.

Current riding ability required:  Before you attend this course you will ideally be currently riding off-road and completing rides of around 20km or more with one or two longer uphill sections. You will be comfortable riding wide tracks and trails but possibly not be confident descending, choosing your lines or riding obstacles and single track.  You may also be currently walking steeper and more technical sections.

Endorsements:

"What a great day with Peter.  The course was the best $65.00 spent on a bike!"  Nick Gartell - June 07

“Great, I’d highly recommend it.”  Sue Blaikie - August 07

"In 10 minutes Peter had me more comfortable on and in more control of my bike then I've ever been since I took up MTB! I used to just hold on and hope for the best and thank the heavens above when I made it down the hill, or over a rough dodgy piece of track but today... 'I' was in control of the situation!"  Pete was a real sweetie and was really encouraging."  Hilary Hughes - November 07

"The Introductory mountain bike course was fantastic!  It was the perfect length for the brain to concentrate and Peter has a lovely personality which gently encourages you to try things you have never been brave enough to do before but at the same time makes you feel safe and capable - a real art.  Peter has changed my whole approach and I would love to encourage others who lack confidence to take part in a course - you will be amazed at what you can actually do in full control of your bike."  Lisa Toovey - March 08

"We had such a blast with Peter last Sunday... really valuable stuff and he's an excellent teacher. In fact I'm pretty sure I got my $65 worth in the first 5 minutes! I wasn't sure what to expect but as soon as Peter began, I knew he had a wealth of experience to impart. We were a pretty mixed bag in terms of experience but Peter took the time to make sure we understood the fundamentals... well worth it at any level.  Thanks!"  Anna Middleton - August 09

Intermediate Course (Wellington)

To progress as a mountain biker you need balance, control and the ability to move yourself and your bike around with confidence. The aim of the Intermediate Course is to develop and improve existing skills and to introduce new ones. You will be tackling more advanced, technical and challenging cross-country terrain.  The Intermediate Course is ideal preparation for those looking to start racing or to challenge their current level of riding.

NB: It is strongly recommended that participants have first completed the Introductory Course.

Current riding ability required:  To attend this course you will be riding off-road and completing rides of 25–30km or more with a number of long strenuous climbs and some technically challenging sections.  You will be able to ride non-technical single-track but would like to improve, learn to ride drop-offs, corner more confidently, travel a bit faster on the descents, choose smoother lines and tackle more technical climbs.

Endorsements:

"I just want to say a huge thanks to Peter and PFC as they have had a massive impact on my riding. I really appreciated Peter's infectious enthusiasm and personable approach, he clearly thrives on seeing people advance their skills. I now have a far better appreciation for the core skills required to ride safely and effectively and how to incorporate these into any terrain. I am certainly a far better rider now and I'm confidently tackling terrain that I would not have attempted before these courses. Peter gave me the extra push that I needed and wanted, but at the same time he recognises if someone doesnt want that push or isnt ready for it and his teaching style adapts accordingly. I would definitely recommend these courses to anyone. Thanks again."  Tom Charles
