About Penny Farthing Cycles

Penny Farthing Cycles has operated in popular Courtenay Place, Wellington for 25 years. We've been in our current location at 89 Courtenay Place (next to the St James Theatre) for 15 years and Shane Collett has owned and managed the shop for 13. 

We have two car parks specifically for our customers. These are located in the car parking area at the end of York Street, first left off Taranaki Street.  They are numbered 17 and 18 and have our PFC logo painted on the ground.

Shane leads our team at Penny Farthing Cycles who live the passion for cycling on a daily basis. Our staff are all avid and experienced cyclists, both recreational and competitive and across the spectrum of road, cross-country and downhill mountain biking, triathlon, BMX and recreational family riding.

At Pennys we pride ourselves on supporting all areas of local cycling and are proud sponsors of the PNP Road and Mountain bike series, The Karopoti Challenge, The Wellington Triathlon Club and The Scorching Triathlon and Duathlon series . We also support and sponsor individual competitive riders and are the official bike shop for The Tour of Wellington.

The PFC team hold a wealth of experience to ensure you receive the right advice and best options for your personal riding circumstances. We are proud to be the exclusive Wellington stockists of the leading brands from around the world Scott, Merida, Giant, Mirraco and Haro. For 2009 we are also pleased to introduce the internationally acclaimed and Olympic gold medal producing Orbea bikes.

More about Shane

Shane has an extensive background in road and track racing spanning more than 25 years and has trained and raced in most New Zealand centres and is well known and respected amongst fellow riders - both current and veteran. He is Past Chairman of BIANZ (Bicycle Industry Association of New Zealand), has been the Wellington representative on the National Board of BikeNZ. Shane strives to ensure honesty, ethicity and integrity in the bicycle retail industry.

Shane is passionate about cycling and encourages others to enter and enjoy the sport, whether recreational, family or elite riding. He's also an advocate for bike safety on our roads and is regularly called upon to give safety talks to groups and to assist with coaching coaches.
